New Members Information Sheet

Welcome to the Glen Iris Junior Football Club.

The Club has been established since 1987 and last year fielded Teams with 400 players in Age groups from U9 to U14. The Club places teams in the Yarra Junior Football League.

The Club endeavours to provide a learning and development grounding for all players where they become part of a team and can develop their football and leadership skills at their individual pace.

At the Glen Iris Junior Football Club, in the age groups from U9 to U12 we endeavour to create a good mix of players while maintaining an even standard across the teams. Additionally we try to offer a good mix of schools per team. We do make every effort to place the children with their friends that they nominate on their Registration form. Please also note it is Club policy to have the children playing in their own age group.  

The Club is totally run by volunteers where we have a Committee, Coaches and Team Managers who devote their time into making the players time at the Club as enjoyable as possible. At the same time becoming part of the development of both their child/ren and others.

The season is structured as follows:

• Registration Day is Early Feburary (SUNDAY 15^th 2009)

• Pre-season training sessions start on Friday March 20^th  from 4pm at the Hawthorn Hockey Centre - Auburn Road and continue on Friday 27^th and Friday April 3^rd with a Jumper presentation BBQ on April the 3^rd of April.
• Practice Match V Camberwell Sharks on Sunday April 5th
• 1^st Round commences on Sunday 19th April and we play 15 rounds until the End of August.
• Teams will Train either Wednesday or Friday Nights @ Righetti Oval/TH King
• Through the season we have about four ‘Happy Hour' functions held on Sunday evenings. These are great social evenings for the adults and children alike. The coaches also make presentations to their teams.
• We have special nights for the Kids - Pie Night, Presentation Night  etc
• We have a major social evening, which helps raise funds for the Club, and this is likely to be held on or around June 20th. More information about that when the date is finalised.
• Communication will primarily be through email and through our website http://www.gijfc.com/  -  Additionally each week your Team Manager will supply you with a newsletter.
