From Andrew Chambers, President 2020:
I know you are all keen to get back to football…the YJFL in conjunction with the AFL and the State Government have approved a return to football training for community football clubs such as the Gladiators.
At this stage we are allowed to conduct football training sessions but cannot play matches. We hope to hear more over the next few week about when proper football matches can be played. At this stage we are hopeful that football matches for season 2020 will commence at the start of July and that the season will run for 8-10 matches followed by 2-3 weeks for finals. This would mean that the season would finish in late September or early October.
I have attached a link to the many protocols that will need to be complied with in order to keep everyone safe and minimise any possible risk of covid-19 transmission. It is a long list but you will note that one of the main requirements is for there to be training groups of no more than 10 players and that only two groups of 10 players are allowed to be on our ovals at any one time.
This will create some logistical challenges but we also intend to use Saturdays and Sundays as training days so that all players and teams can have decent training runs.
Please bear with us while we work through the various requirements and protocols but I am sure you will agree that it will be great to have our boys and girls out on the training track again.
Go Gladiators!
